Times are changing

It's time Matt jumped on the blog topic bandwagon and put in my two cents about the whole same sex marriage. Now I could just put up that "10 reasons why homosexuality is wrong" list, I've seen it on about 6 of the blogs I sometimes visit and while it IS funny I figured I'd make a more serious post to say the things I wanted to.

apparently the whole issue of same-sex marriages is a HUGE deal. People are so set in their ways that they say it's "wrong" or "disgusting", it kind of sickens me that people would be so ignorant to say these things. I'd just like to ask you a question to you if you're one of those people out there that believes that homosexuals shouldn't get married. What have they done to you? Seriously I want you to really think about it...Have they caused you any harm? Did they run out into the streets beating every hetero person they could find? Did they pillage and burn down your village? Chances are that your answer to every single one of these questions is no. If one wasn't...Well, I now ask you if it had anything to do with the bible/religion. If you answered yes to this I'd like to move on to my next point.

First I'd like to point out that this wasn't intended to bash religion but it does (in my opinion) have some importance. The church would have to represent the largest opposition against same sex marriage. They essentially say that it goes against what's written in the bible or against God or some such like that. Now I don't understand why they would get so worked up about it, is it their job to make sure everything does what is required in the bible? Not really no, I find it repulsive that the church, supposedly an entity that encourages love and acceptance, would participate in this cheaply disguised discrimination. Now if the church wouldn't recognize a same-sex marriage because it's against what they teach then why is it that that same church will recognize a marriage from another religion? It's not even like the church is being forced to perform the ceremonies, someone like a justice of the peace can do that. So again, why oppose it? Are you making the world a better place by forcing others to believe what you do? Basically promoting hate against a group that has done nothing wrong...Hey! That seems familiar...Now who did that? Blaming problems on a completely innocent group of people. I don't know but that seems awfully familiar, like something that happened in the Second World War, you know, with all the Jews being used as a scape goat for the problems that Germany was facing. Yes I know it's a little extreme to be comparing it to that but for all intents and purpose it is true.

I just can't fathom the harm same-sex marriages would cause, especially since they are allowed right now and nothing horrible has come of it. If it really bothers you that much just for off somewhere and piss off. You're not doing anyone any good complaining about it and your opinion on the matter is bigoted and invalid. If we want to progress as a society people we need to get rid of all the hate and discrimination, not prevent two people (even of the same sex) who love each other to get married.
